Salary and benefits
Starting salaries for compliance and
financial crime professionals have
risen significantly over the last two
years, with junior candidates benefiting
from the lion’s share of the gains.
As previously mentioned, the pipeline
supplying talent for AVP and Associate
roles was interrupted during the
pandemic. The resulting combination
of high demand and fierce competition
for suitable candidates has
subsequently created huge upward
pressure on salaries at this level.
However, salary increases for more
senior roles have not kept the same
pace, meaning the pay gap between
AVPs, VPs and Directors has narrowed.
We predict junior salaries will begin to
taper off once candidate availability
recovers or fewer roles come onto
the market, but for the moment, there
are many lucrative opportunities for
capable individuals with two to three
years’ experience.
And with skilled candidates often
receiving multiple offers and
counteroffers, it is in a firm’s best
interests to move quickly to have a
chance of securing the talent they
need.
